Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy invites visitors into a colorful, riotous fun house of carnival attractions by visionary artists of the 20th century including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Sonia Delaunay, and more.

The brainchild of artist André Heller, Luna Luna first opened in 1987 in Hamburg, Germany, as a spectacular fairground. And then, by a twist of fate, the park’s treasures were forgotten in storage in Texas for 36 years. With a blockbuster showing in Los Angeles in December 2023, Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy resurrected these artworks, to audiences’ delight.

This November, the showcase arrives at The Shed, creating a can’t-be-missed event in NYC. The Shed’s presentation will include special performances and concert events.

Featured artists include Jean-Michel Basquiat, Arik Brauer, Salvador Dalí, Sonia Delaunay, Monika GilSing, Keith Haring, André Heller, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, and Kenny Scharf

OCTOBER 10-DECEMBER 1ST

The mayhem unfolds in real time in this World Premiere uproarious new satire written and directed by Tony Award® nominee ROBERT O’HARA (SLAVE PLAY, MCC’S BLKS, BOOTYCANDY).

Robert O’Hara writes and directs Shit. Meet. Fan., which follows a long line of works he has both written and staged. He won great acclaim with his New York Times Critics Pick Bootycandy at Playwrights Horizons followed by Barbecue at The Public Theater before taking Slave Play to Broadway, earning him a Tony Award nomination for his direction. Now, he returns to MCC, where he previously directed BLKS, another Critic’s Pick.

You trust your friends, right? Experience Shit. Meet. Fan. off Broadway to see just how trusting one particular friend group is. In this world premiere comedy from the writer behind uproarious hits including Bootycandy and Barbecue, one friend group makes the rules of tonight's game very clear: get out your phone, turn up the volume, and face the screen to where everyone can see. Every text, every call, and every email notification, appropriate or not, must be shared aloud. Sounds fun? We’ll see: what starts out as a curious and fun game transforms into something much more revelatory in this satirical, blazing new play.

YVONNE WELLS-Beyond Patchwork: The Abstractions  of Yvonne Wells

Fort Gansevoort will present Beyond Patchwork: The Abstractions of Yvonne Wells, the gallery’s second solo exhibition of the Alabama-based artist. Born in 1939 in Tuscaloosa, Yvonne Wells is a self-taught textile artist living and working in the same region that was home to the enslaved female quilters of the rural community known as Gee’s Bend.

Beyond Patchwork coincides with a milestone in the artist’s career. Wells’ work is being written into the canon of exceptional Black American textile arts via the first monograph devoted to her career, to be published by University of Alabama Press in September 2024. Co-authored by Wells and University of Alabama Professor Stacy Morgan, this comprehensive publication will span nearly five decades of Wells’ output and include scholarly essays as well as more than 100 color plates of her quilts.

EGON SCHIELE : Living Landscapes

Neue Galerie New York

1048 Fifth Avenue

October 17, 2024 - January 13, 2025

Egon Schiele

“Egon Schiele: Living Landscapes” will investigate the importance of landscape in the Austrian artist’s work. Plants, natural environments, and townscapes determine the spaces Egon Schiele created in his paintings, and they also reflect the rich symbolism he employed that is centered around the human condition. In particular, plants are often endowed with an allegorical meaning. Flowers and trees assume the role of portrait subjects and convey an almost human appearance. Schiele’s landscapes always represent more than their apparent subject matter. His portrayal of nature and his rendering of towns and trees epitomize the life cycle and the human condition.

MARKET REPORT

THE SURREY HOTEL
20 East 76th Street

Mortgage-related sales in Manhattan exceeded cash sales for the first time in two years. Sales rebounded year over year for the first time since mortgage rates began their ascent, accelerating the market pace. Listing inventory rose annually for the first time in five quarters, rising above the second-quarter decade average. While median sales price slipped nominally year over year, it was the second highest level in two years. New development sales, prices, and listings expanded for the first time in a while. Luxury listing inventory rose year over year for the second time after three quarters of declines

Prices in the Hamptons surged to new highs as sales continued to surge. The market share of sales of $5 million or higher was the second highest on record. The median sales price jumped to a new high for the second time in three quarters. Sales and listing inventory increased year over year at an expanding rate for the third time.

In most Florida markets we cover, single family and condo prices continued to rise across the region. Higher price gains were generally seen in the luxury market often reaching new highs. Listing inventory has been rising, but unevenly across the region, with higher gains on the gulf coast. Sales are beginning to rise in many markets after several years of declines, enabled by the influx of supply. All-cash sales are rising across the region, spurred by elevated mortgage rates.
