August 2026

HAPPY AUGUST!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer holidays!

We have had so many great experiences with friends this summer. I have to say I adore travelling in the summer with my family and close friends!

In this issue of Citynotes I added some new restaurants, an art exhibit and show at Lincoln Center. Most of the new and exciting events will open in September so I promise to add more fabulous shows for that issue.

I had some fun for this issue and added quite a few ideas for hostess gifts. I love giving gifts! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did organizing them! :)

I hope you enjoy August!

Wishing you and your families a beautiful month.

Enjoy! Be Kind! Be Safe!

Much love,

Patty

NEW RESTAURANTS NYC

Lei

LEI

15-17 Doyers St

Annie Shi, one of the restaurateurs behind King and Jupiter, chose to open her Chinese American wine bar Lei this summer. I don't know about you but King is my son Charlie's favorite restaurant! Located on the historic Doyers Street stretch in Manhattan’s Chinatown, Lei is a 28-seat wine bar serving a broad array of wine from classic producers as well as up-and-coming winemakers. The menu, which features dishes rooted in regional Chinese homecooking. They release a limited number of reservations 14 days in advance at 9am EST. Walk-ins welcome nightly! A.

Oberon

OBERON
NEW MUSEUM
235 Bowery Street
Oberon

Well, we have been waiting for this for a long time! Nestled within the OMA-designed expansion, Oberon is an all-day restaurant and bar located inside the New Museum.

Operated by the Oberon Group—the team behind Rucola, Rhodora, Anais, and June—Oberon serves as both a neighborhood restaurant and a destination for the art community. Integral to the experience are ongoing collaborations with artists Ian Cheng, Minjae Kim, and Laurie Anderson, whose contributions are woven throughout the restaurant’s design, atmosphere, and programming.

Somssi

SOMSSI
79 MacDougal Street
Somssi

Somssi is a new restaurant in Greenwich Village from the team behind Atoboy, Atomix, and NARO. A debut concept from Ahris Kim of NA:EUN Hospitality, the name “Somssi” (솜씨) reflects a sense of craft: skill shaped through time, instinct, and experience. The place is kind of Asian and kind of European, with knick knacks and lace curtains that suggest small-town Americana. It's interesting, and it works.

Somssi offers an approachable a la carte menu of shareable plates, drawing from Asian and European ingredients, techniques, and immigrant nostalgia. The experience is complemented by a thoughtful beverage program, featuring a well-traveled wine list, sake, and playful “little beverages.”

Zoli

ZOLI
312 Maujer Street
Zoli
Zoli is a neighborhood restaurant serving (mostly) American, seafood-focused dishes situated within the Amant campus in Brooklyn, NY. Houseman in Soho is known for its burger, but it's not uncommon for the chef to throw some seafood on the menu that he caught that morning out on Long Island. Zoli, the team’s follow-up restaurant, goes even deeper, with its prominent art installation of three large fishtanks—outfitted with detritus from Newtown Creek—doubling down on the theme. The seafood-centric menu itself has no connection to Newtown Creek, and though the crudo is predictably perfect, and the roasted strawberry margarita refreshing, the setting is ultimately more memorable. Zoli feel most like a museum restaurant. Pair it with a few Bushwick/East Williamsburg gallery visits for an artsy date.

For those of you who know. this is by my best friend Helene who loves making these pressed flower collages. I adore all that she creates. you can buy one as a gift, a pair , 4 or 6 are great for a fun purchase for yourself or a great purchase for a hostess gift. Here is the spiky, tousled petals in shades of purple-black and plum radiate outward from a bright golden center, giving this dahlia real drama and movement. It's paired with rich, deeply lobed green foliage and two smaller companion blooms with matching blue-flecked centers — bold enough to anchor a room on its own. By Bad Ass!

I love these articulated fish! Either small as a charm on a necklace or larger on a cocktail table or in multiples down the table .This fish is a remarkable table decoration with an incredibly flexible body. All parts are intricately engraved in detailed patterns, creating the appearance of small scales arranged in stripes. The fish is made of sterling silver and was most likely produced in Spain during the 1920s–1940s. It features an opening mouth and green glass cabochon eyes.

ONE ART & BROADWAY SHOW

Fairfield Porter

FAIRFIELD PORTER: What Everyone Knows
THE ARTS STUDENT LEAGUE
215 West 57th Street
Fairfield Porter

Fairfield Porter: What Everyone Knows is the first large-scale exhibition of the artist’s work in New York City in twenty-five years and the first ever at the Art Students League, where he studied from 1928–1930. Described by John Ashbery in 1983 as “perhaps the major American artist of this century,” Porter (1907–1975) remains an essential if still under-recognized figure whose paintings of shaded lawns, uncleared tables, and briny coasts are both lush and challenging, each motivated by Porter’s fundamental claim: “the real is specific.”

On view June 5–August 18, 2026, the exhibition brings together more than 35 works including key pieces on loan from the Parrish Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and private collections, alongside several works from the League’s permanent collection.

Try to get in to see this before it closes August 18th!

The Whoopi Monologues

THE WHOOPI MONOLOGUES

Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater

150 West 65th Street
In 1984, up-and-coming monologist Whoopi Goldberg premiered her one-woman show on Broadway, torching the rulebook of traditional solo performance in one of the most electrifying debuts of the era. Now, the trailblazing work returns—but for a new generation. Emmy® Award-winning producer, actor and filmmaker Kerry Washington (American Son, Scandal), and Tony® Award winner Kara Young (Purpose, Purlie Victorious) lead a remarkable ensemble of 5 women in bringing Goldberg’s unforgettable characters back to the stage, in this new production directed by Tony® Award nominee Whitney White. Funny, vivid, and deeply human, these nuanced portraits feel as fresh and irresistible today as they were over 40 years ago.

Only available thru august 30th and tickets are selling FAST!

MARKET REPORT

Manhattan remains a strong and robust market, with signed contracts edging up to 3,188 from the previous quarter. This reflects a rebound in buyer interest despite some moderation in pricing. While the median sale price softened slightly to $1.3M, it signals a leveling of values after a period of growth. Our market's strength is also reflected in the steady increase in recorded sales, which reached 3,161 this quarter—up from 2,917 in Q1 2026. This highlights continued buyer interest and engagement.
