Guggenheim Museum
1071 Fifth Avenue
New York, NY 10128
(Between 88th and 89th Streets)
|
Across eight decades of intense
creative production, Alex Katz (b.
1927, Brooklyn, New York) has sought
to capture visual experience in the
present tense. “Eternity exists
in minutes of absolute
awareness,” Katz stated in 1961.
“Painting, when successful,
seems to be a synthetic reflection of
this condition.” Whether evoking
a glancing exchange between friends or
a shaft of light filtered through
trees, he has aimed to create a record
of “quick things passing,”
compressing the flux of everyday life
into a vivid burst of optical
perception. This show encompasses his
entire life of work and his overall
journey. Its so beautiful to see how
he has evolved to a now 96 year old
man!

303 GALLERY
555 W 21 STREET
|
303 Gallery will show the
gallery’s third exhibition by
renowned Berlin-based artist Alicja
Kwade, opening on November 15. This
exhibition of new works will feature a
large-scale, immersive installation,
sculptures, and wall works, as well as
a series of suspended and standing
mobiles that are being presented
outside of Europe for the first time.
This will also be the artist’s
first exhibition in New York since her
celebrated 2019 commission for the
Metropolitan Museum of Art’s
Roof Garden. The exhibition’s
title, Petrichor, refers to the
distinctive earthy scent that briefly
lingers after rainfall on parched
soil.

Wolfgang Tillmans: To look without
fear
|
MOMA MUSEUM
11 WEST 53RD ST
THRU JANUARY 4
|
From ecstatic images of nightlife to
abstract images made without a camera,
sensitive portraits to architectural
slide projections, documents of social
movements to windowsill still lifes,
astronomical phenomena to intimate
nudes, Tillmans has explored seemingly
every imaginable genre of photography,
continually experimenting with how to
make new pictures. He considers the
role of the artist to be that of
“an amplifier” of social
and political causes, and his approach
is animated by a concern with the
possibilities of forging connections
and the idea of togetherness. The way
in which he exhibits his full length
of work and scale is incredibly
moving!

Despite the decline from last
year’s sales surge in Manhattan,
levels remained significantly higher
than in pre-pandemic conditions.
Median sales price rose annually to
the second highest on record for a
third quarter. Sales and average price
per square foot fell to the second
highest on record, also for a third
quarter. Listing inventory was up
nominally from the prior year's
quarter and pre-pandemic levels. Co-op
sales fell year over year for the
first time in six quarters, and condo
sales fell year over year for the
first time in seven quarters. Luxury
price trend indicators expanded year
over year for the fourth consecutive
quarter. Luxury listing inventory
expanded year over year but remained
well below pre-pandemic levels. New
development listings accounted for
one-third of all luxury listings,
consistent with the decade average.
New development sales declined sharply
from last year's unusual high but were
significantly above pre-pandemic
levels. The market share of new
development sales was well above the
decade's quarterly average.
| |
|
|
|
Despite rising mortgage rates in the
Hamptons, price trends continued to
set records as the lack of listing
inventory persisted. The median sales
price has risen to both record and
near-record levels for ten straight
quarters, to nearly double
pre-pandemic levels. The number of
sales fell year over year for the
fifth consecutive quarter as listing
inventory fell annually for the
twelfth consecutive quarter and was
less than half of pre-pandemic levels.
| |
|
Across the region, price trends
continued to rise, with many markets
seeing new highs. Listing inventory
expanded over the summer but remained
well below pre-pandemic levels. Sales
volume slowed compared to the frenzied
levels of 2021 before mortgage rates
spiked but remained above pre-pandemic
levels. The market is coming off of
one of the largest housing booms of
the modern era, pivoting to more
typical activity levels. However, the
lack of listing inventory persists as
a market condition even with the
higher cost of financing. Bidding wars
remained a part of the market
landscape in the third quarter but
with a lower share of sales.
