APRIL
Happy April!

This month's Citynotes is a bit different. I've decided to highlight 3 artists who I know.

The first artist is Carly Home. Carly worked with me for years at Anthropologie. She moved out to Ojai and started an incredible textile business focused on her beautiful artwork which feels fresh and unique. Im so proud of her journey and excited to introduce you to her work.

Second is Zachary Zimmerman. I have known Zac since before he was born. His mother was actually in our wedding! Zac is an incredible ceramicist with exquisite taste. He creates refined porcelain with historical references which he sells at Liz O'Brien  in New York. He has also mastered the organic by creating bark urns with gorgeous mushrooms coming off the vessel which he sells through Casa Gusto

Lastly, Charlie's friend Jonathan Renker has started an extremely chic and luxurious accessories line of cashmere throw scarves and shawls. These are definitely the perfect gift as well a special purchase for yourself! Me & K is a joy to behold! Enjoy!

In addition, I have included a couple of new home stores which are treasures as well as two art shows I didn't include last month. I have also added a sad note....the incredible visionary Tyler Hayes has decided to close his store BDDW on Crosby Street. Tyler completely changed the home world with his out of the box craftsmanship in furniture, lighting ,rugs and ceramics , all of  which I Absolutely adore! I have a collection in my kitchen that I started buying 18 years ago.

Lastly, there are so many wonderful shows on Broadway this season. Robert and I went to see Cats: The Jellicle Ball last week and had the best time! SO much fun! April 15th we are going to see Rocky Horror Picture Show...Robert's absolute favorite from college! when my friend Lori & I went to visit Robert in college when we were in 11th grade..... Robert insisted we go to a midnight showing of Rocky Horror and sing along to everything. I can't wait to see it in a couple of weeks live.

Ok...so now I've gone on long enough!

Next month I'll include Mother's Day gifts.

Have a wonderful Easter or Passover holiday

I hope you enjoyed this months guide!

CARLY HOME

City Notes
Monkey Garden Wallpaper
A vibrant study of flora and fauna, this conversational garden is home to monkeys, kingfishers, and imaginary floral species. Carly drew inspiration from her many travels, interpreting all she had seen and felt into this wallpaper.
City Notes
Lady Bug Highway
Carly Home
A playful print inspired by the lively energy of ladybugs in the garden, Ladybug Highway is hand-painted by Carly and traces winding ivy stems that double as tiny thoroughfares for its charming inhabitants. Bringing a sense of story, movement, and joy to your walls. A modern classic with a wink of wildness, ladybugs have long been thought to bring good luck, protection, and a little bit of magic wherever they land.

City Notes
Casia Flowers
Inspired by all that blooms during Long Island summers, hydrangeas combine with fig leaves creating a hybrid flower species. Carly originally painted this flower with Gouache, an opaque watercolor technique.

City Notes
Winona Flowers
Carly Home
Named after Carly’s old street in Los Angeles, Winona Boulevard, this all over-ditsy floral print was inspired by the many wildflowers she would see on daily walks with her dog, Teddy. This beautiful, lush pattern plays well with other prints that are geometric, and floral.

Elephant Ears
Born from the sculptural drama of the Colocasia plant, this pattern is my study in movement, shadow, and scale. Layered, painterly and richly dimensional.

ASSORTED OPENINGS
&
A SAD CLOSING

City Notes
BDDW Closing
BDDW
As all good things do, this lease eventually had to come to an end. April will be their last month on Crosby Street.

The end of this era is, for BDDW, an exciting beginning—trading square footage for headspace. More time to lean back into the interesting, artistic, and experimental stuff they started with in the first place.

25 years ago this institution opened. If you haven't been, make sure to experience the beauty and excitement of BDDW and M Crow before they close.
Antiga Galleria
Antiga Galeria
Founded by AD100 interior designer Neal Beckstedt and Paulo Braga, Antiga Galeria is a reflection of their shared love for timeless design, soulful materials, and lived-in beauty. Neal’s celebrated eye for quiet elegance and thoughtful restraint shapes every corner of the gallery — from the vintage and antique pieces we source from around the world to his exclusive line of custom furniture.

Each object they select, or design which carries a story—rooted in craftsmanship, age, and emotion.

It’s a place for nostalgia, curiosity, and the comfort of something beautifully made.

You MUST GO!
Robert Stilin Shop
Robert Stilin Shop

Robert's eye is fantastic!

I ran into him at the Marche in Paris and enjoyed seeing what he was attracted to.

Helen Frankenthaler:
The Moment and the Distance
Gagosian
April 30–July 2, 2026
522 West 21st Street
Helen Frankenthaler
Surveying four decades of paintings from 1960 to 1992, this exhibition features more than twenty of Frankenthaler’s largest, most ambitious works. Arranged by decade, these canvases—with their monumental scale, sensuous color, and innovative compositions—offer new perspectives on the artist’s continual reinvention of her practice.

The exhibition’s title is derived from an incisive 1975 essay by Barbara Guest, a poet and friend of the artist, who wrote: “She has rewarded us with the astonishing combination of freedom with restraint, extravagance with discipline, suggestion and definition. The moment becomes the distance.”

I can't wait to see this!

Theaster Gates: Dave: All My Relations
Gagosian
821 Park Avenue
March 26–May 2, 2026
Theaster Gates
Gagosian presents Dave: All My Relations, an exhibition organized by Theaster Gates that celebrates David Drake (c. 1801–1874), an enslaved ceramicist from Edgefield, South Carolina, known as Dave the Potter. The exhibition traces Dave’s impact on Gates’s own practice and serves to commemorate the gift of a historic work by Dave from Gates’s personal collection to the artist’s descendants. That vessel will be shown together with another recently returned to Dave’s family and alongside two new works by Gates.

Now recognized as a significant figure in the history of American ceramics, Dave was a skilled potter who made some of the finest examples of the alkali-glazed stoneware for which the Edgefield area is known. Yet, beyond his mastery of craft and scale, Dave left a mark that set him apart for its daring and beauty: he not only signed his work; in some cases, he incised them with verse. This act was illegal in the antebellum South, where laws prohibited enslaved individuals from being taught to read or write.

This opens today as I'm writing this.......cant wait to see it!
