Ginko Roaster
This Japanese made roaster is handmade with a fine stainless wire mesh in an area of Japan that specializes in this kind of metal work. The lockable lid keeps the roasting nuts safely inside even if they burst when heating, and you can also flip the unit upside down when roasting. The Japanese cypress handle does not heat up while cooking, keeping your hands safe. Roast aromatic and flavorful ginkgo nuts or any nuts  by holding and gentle shaking the roaster over a stovetop flame

The Henson

Welcome to The Henson, and the Catskills!

We proudly count ourselves among them.

It seems everyone has come looking for something. You have too, ya know? The air breathes of an earlier time. There’s a specificity in the way the clouds form and the rain falls and the snow flutters. Foreign and familiar all the same.

There's hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter, mountain fresh air, and dark, starry nights.

This is an inn, and you can treat it as such. There are comfy beds and hot showers, wonderful food, and exceptional service. It’s a great place to spend some time. But if you really let go, and give in to the energy of a space created with love, this will feel like home.

Welcome to The Henson, we are delighted that you’ve chosen to spend your time with us!

RESTAURANT MATILDA IS INSPIRED BY THE BEAUTY, ABUNDANCE, AND DYNAMIC LANDSCAPE OF THE CATSKILLS REGION OF NEW YORK.

THIS IS THE RESTAURANT (AND INN!) WE WANT TO BE IN. DESIGNED INTENTIONALLY AS A PLACE TO GATHER AND CELEBRATE AND SHARE AND LAUGH AND MARVEL AT THIS BEAUTIFUL WORLD, TOGETHER.

Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe's design partnership began in Manhattan in 2004. Curious collaborators and modern hunters of uncanny beauty.

Drawn by the golden light of California, Todd and Amy established a LA-based design studio and boutique in 2008, where vintage aesthetics, global treasures, and craftsmanship converge. Their offerings, from bespoke furniture to globally sourced home accessories, are a testament to design with soul, precision, and story.

I have included this incredible store in many CityNotes monthly letters. They have a fantastic website and I adore shopping the store in LA. Last week, they opened in Manhattan!!!! So exciting! I actually went in the day before they openend and bought my sister in alw and early birthday gift! These incredibly chic Oaxcan Bowls. I love this store and plan on spending quite  a bit of time there!

MAURIZIO CATTELAN-SUNDAY PAINTER
Gagosian
522 West 21st Street
April 30–June 15, 2024
This is Maurizio Cattelan’s first solo gallery exhibition in more than two decades and his solo debut at Gagosian. Similar to America—a functional solid gold toilet that he installed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 2016—Cattelan’s new project, which is on view at 522 West 21st Street location, once again challenges the contradictions of American society and culture, and touches on sensitive issues faced by the world at large.

Visitors to Gagosian’s 21st Street location are immediately confronted by a towering, 17-foot-tall wall of the gilded panels that stretches some 68 feet wide. In front of it is November (2024), a marble fountain that portrays a slouching figure urinating on the ground. Cattelan characterizes the work as “a monument to marginality,” an image of a reality that we habitually ignore. Echoing Manneken Pis (1619), a famous public sculpture of a boy urinating into a fountain, it presents the viewer with an uncomfortable contravention of societal norms. But, as Bonami demands, “If you’re free to buy an assault rifle in a department store, what’s wrong with pissing in public

Stanley WHitney-By the Love of Those Unloved
Gagosian
May 8–July 3, 2024
980 Madison Avenue
Gagosian is pleased to announce By the Love of Those Unloved, the gallery’s first exhibition of work by Stanley Whitney in New York. Featuring new paintings and works on paper, the exhibition is on view at 980 Madison Avenue from May 8 through June 22.

A master colorist, Whitney takes an exploratory and lyrical approach to painting. Each of his canvases is structured as a loose grid of rectilinear blocks in three or four rows. Laying down one vivid color at a time, the artist establishes relationships between each area, its neighbors, and the composition as a whole, employing gestural brushwork to juxtapose hues applied with varied degrees of opacity. Between each row are linear bands that ground the composition and sometimes extend the tones of individual blocks. Inspired by jazz, Whitney defines a space within which to improvise, each painting setting a unique group of chromatic and spatial harmonies in motion.

Sleeping Beauty
Metropolitan Museum of Art
1000 Fifth Avenue
through September 2nd, 2024
Sleeping Beauty
The Costume Institute’s spring 2024 exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, reactivates the sensory capacities of masterworks in the Museum’s collection through first-hand research, conservation analysis, and diverse technologies—from cutting-edge tools of artificial intelligence and computer-generated imagery to traditional formats of x-rays, video animation, light projection, and soundscapes.

When an item of clothing enters the Costume Institute collection, its status is changed forever. What was once a vital part of a person’s life is now a motionless ‘artwork’ that can no longer be worn or heard, touched, or smelled. This exhibition reanimates these objects, helping us experience them as they were originally intended—with vibrancy, dynamism, and life.

The exhibition features approximately 220 garments and accessories spanning four centuries, all visually connected through themes of nature, which also serves as a metaphor for the transience of fashion. Visitors will be invited to smell the aromatic histories of hats bearing floral motifs; to touch the walls of galleries that will be embossed with the embroidery of select garments; and to experience—via the illusion technique known as Pepper’s ghost—how the “hobble skirt” restricted women’s stride in the early 20th century. Punctuating the galleries will be a series of “sleeping beauties”—garments that can no longer be dressed on mannequins due to their extreme fragility.

Mickalene Thomas: All About Love
The Broad
221 S. Grand Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90012
The Broad is pleased to announce the launch of a new touring special exhibition Mickalene Thomas: All About Love, running from May 25 to September 29, 2024. Co-organized by the Hayward Gallery, London, and The Broad, Los Angeles, and in partnership with the Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia, Mickalene Thomas: All About Love will be the first major international tour of this pioneering artist’s work. Marking its debut at The Broad with over 80 works made by the artist over the last 20 years, the exhibition highlights how Mickalene Thomas has mastered and innovated within several disciplines, from mixed-media painting and collage to installation and photography. The exhibition shares its title and several of its themes with the pivotal text by feminist author bell hooks, in which love is an active process rooted in healing, carving a path away from domination and towards collective liberation.
